(More customer reviews)I am a dentist who recommends Crest-brand White Strips to my patients becasue they do work to whiten teeth. However, they have to be used correctly and I recommend that you follow the directions exactly as specified inside the box.
1. First brush your teeth with a wet toothbrush to remove the layer of plaque (toothpaste is unnecessary). Rinse your teeth well with water. Tooth enamel has pores, and the pores need to be open for the chemical to penetrate.
2. Use the strips as directed on the box. The instructions will tell you to bleach twice a day for 30-minutes a time. The inner part of the strip has a chemical called hydrogen peroxide; (in-office, or dentist-assisted dental whitening uses a 15-35% version of the same chemical) that causes the stains inside your teeth to be oxidized and turn white. Applying the strips has a small learning curve as you will probably bend or fold a couple of them before you get the technique down.
2. Leave the strips on for the time recommended in the instructions and do not overbleach your teeth, as this leads to sensitivity.
Disadvantages
1. Hydrogen Peroxide can "burn" your gums. If you notice a burning sensation when you use the product, it is the chemical oxidizing (or burning) your gums (it will turn them white with a minor chemical burn). Depending on how severe the burning is, it may cause you to want to stop the treatment. It is OK to stop the treatment for a day or two to let the gums heal. Once they are healed, resume treatment with the White Strips. Try to not get the strip on your gums.
2. Your teeth may become senstiive during the week treatment time. Try to tolerate the sensitivity if it is mild, but if more severe, take a day or two off to let the teeth settle down and then pick up where you left off. You may notice much more sensitivity to cold water, ice cream, etc. The peroxide causes an inflamation of the inner pulp, or nerve center of the tooth and makes the teeth very sensitive to biting or cold drinks or foods. If your teeth become too sensitive, back off on the strips until the sensitivity is gone before resuming bleaching.
3. The strips only cover your front teeth, so only your front teeth will bleach. You may notice the distinct difference between the back (unbleached) teeth and the front (bleached) teeth. Since most people notice the front 6 teeth anyway, this is not a big deal. However, if you have a wide toothy smile, you may want to have a dentist make you a tray that will hold the chemical on the back teeth to whiten them too.
4. The bleaching effect works best on yellow stains. If your stains are due to tetracycline (brownish grey stains in a band on your teeth, your best bet is to have a dentist whiten your teeth as the dentist will use a tray to hold a more concentrated form of the chemical on your teeth for a longer period of time.
Now comes the confusing part: Crest White Strips come in 4 different packages, each a bit different than the others. The main difference is in the strength of the hydrogen peroxide, and the price. The higher the dose of hydrogen peroxide, the most costly the product package. Here are the 4 packages: 1. Crest White Strips Classic (6% hydrogen peroxide, 14-day treatment). 2. Crest White Strips Premium (10% hydrogen peroxide, 7-day treatment). 3. Crest White Strips Premium Plus (10% hydrogen peroxide, and has 12 additional strips). 4. Crest White Strips Renewal (9.5% hydrogen peroxide). The cheapest method (at around 25 dollars, is the Crest Classic Whitestrips, but it takes 2 weeks to complete the treatment). Premium and Premium Pro are both 10% peroxide formulations, work in 7-10 days, and the "Premuim-Plus" gives you 12 additional strips. I am not sure why Crest recently came out with "Renewal", as it is a 9.5% hydrogen peroxide formulation which is not significantly different from the 10% concentration. Leave it to the manufacturer to confuse the consumer!
Crest White Strips work for the vast majority of people. Younger people with yellow stains seem to respond better than older people or those with gray stains. White Strips don't work as fast as a dentist-made custom tray bleaching, (or in-office bleaching) but over time, you will get a result that will be close to that of a dentist, and you will save money too.
I recommend starting with with either the Classic or the Premium-Pro. The Classic works in 2 weeks and is about $1.80 a day. The Premium Pro works in 10 days and is about $2 dollars a day. The Premium and Premium Pro are likely to give you more sensitivity than the Classic.
If you are not satisfied with the results and still want whiter teeth, you can then see your dentist for a more concentrated form of bleaching using a custom-tray system or in-office bleaching. This is much more expensive, but the concentration of hydrogen peroxide is much higher and this tends to work better on stubbornly-stained teeth.

Crest 2 Hour Express Whitestrips and 3D White Rinse Review

(More customer reviews)It's a box of four sets of whitening strips. It seems to suggest that this OTC whitening strip finally contains enough concentration to whiten enough in merely 2 hours that the effect will last 3 months, as the box suggests that it's good for a year's supply. Typically over the counter whitening strips doesn't contain nearly high enough concentration of peroxides, that only after multiple and frequent applications will any results start to show. I wonder if this is different.
Application is painless. It doesn't even suggest brushing your teeth first (in fact it recommends that you don't brush your teeth immediately before application). The whitening strips has a relatively thick layer of gel, and the substrate film material is very pliable yet durable. Its purpose is trying to simulate a dental office treatment, where your teeth will be immersed in a tray of (highly concentrated) peroxide gel/mud. It stuck to my teeth with little effort and dexterity. Within minutes, my teeth was engulfed in a bubbly peroxide bath.
Having this on feels a bit strange in the mouth, and I talked like I had a big tongue, but I tried to carry on as normal. It stuck to the teeth very well, despite my biting right over the strips and licking them. The bubbly area also largely stayed put, and little disturbed by saliva and movement of the lips and tongue. Bubbly substance does seep out in the form of thick gooey film(or it's just a mixture of saliva and gel substrate). My teeth felt the effects: I wouldn't call it discomfort, but after 5 minutes I started feeling something is happening to my teeth, though it's very slight (and probably depends on people's sensitivities).
Taking it off after two hours was easy: just rip it off. I deliberately left a few teeth half covered to see if there are any before/after differences. I noticed that many of my teeth developed white marble-like patterns, or probably what the instruction referred to as "white spots". It seems to develop around areas where the teeth's surface may have imperfections and crack lines. It's said to eventually go away and I believe it.
Thus interestingly, while I wasn't expecting much effects, it seems to have done something. Alas, the experimental tooth where I left half uncovered didn't reveal much difference between the treated and untreated area, other than the marble pattern of white lines that formed on the surface of many treated teeth. I probably have deep coloration problems that cannot be treated by surface oxidation through a moderate peroxide concentration? Anyway, in other words, it didn't work all that much for me.
That said, those white marks on my teeth suggests that the strips did contain a decent amount of peroxide concentration to at least show its effects in two hours, which is on the faster end of average home treatment strips. I had my friend try it and it didn't seem to make that much difference for her either, however.
Therefore, while the active ingredient seems to be layered on thicker and more concentrated than average, it still doesn't seem to whiten that much for us. I wonder if more applications will help, but certainly not at only 4 times a year or once every 3 months. It's probably not strong enough to give off that much lasting effect with such infrequent use.

(More customer reviews)I've used these strips almost exclusively since I've discovered them in 2005. A couple years ago, there was just Crest Whitestrips and these Rembrandt whitening strips.
I had tried the Crest ones but they felt slimy and slid around in my mouth and the intense tooth sensitivity canceled out any positives for me.
The Rembrandt ones are firm, instead of snail-like, and they really stick to every crevice of your teeth. For me personally, they didn't give me a bit of sensitivity.
The true test of course, was, how much whiter did my teeth get? After I had been using these strips per the directions for THREE days, people started randomly commenting on my beautiful smile, and even asking what I used. Imagine how bright I looked after a whole week.
You do need to do semiannual touch-ups if you want to maintain your smile, but that goes with any whitening treatment.
The pro's: trays stick to teeth and stay in place, no white lines across teeth, no sensitivity, no disgusting taste in mouth, no weird "slimy" thing sliding around, results are excellent.
The con's: cost could be cheaper, there are store brand knockoffs now which may do a similar job, only one type to choose from (versus 7575978 kinds of crest strips!).
In conclusion, if you are like me, and don't smoke, drink coffee, or drink tea or wine, then you will have sparkling white teeth in a few days with these strips, and it'll last you a good six months.

(More customer reviews)I am a great candidate for the use of whitening strips since my teeth are naturally less than a perfect white. I gave up coffee for health reasons but also hoped it would improve the color of my teeth. They did improve somewhat but not nearly as much as I would have liked. I've tried the whitening toothpastes and rinses out there with negligible to average results at best.
Which brings us to Crest White Strips. When I finally bit the bullet and decided to go the whitening strip route I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I wasn't prepared to spend the kind of money it takes to get whitening done at a dentist's office and my dental insurance doesn't cover whitening. So Crest Strips turned out to be a great do-it-yourself alternative.
I will admit that my expectations for the strips were perhaps a bit too great to start. I was anticipating a noticeable change in three days as the package indicates. I did see some difference but it wasn't as dramatic as I hoped. However, after talking to friends who've used whitening strips, I decided to quit over-analyzing the process and just go with the program. By doing so I found the end results to be very satisfactory. Although spending 30 minutes a day with this film stuck to my teeth took some getting used to, in the end it wasn't a horrible process.
I followed the regimen to the letter and after a full carton of strips, I have to say my teeth were indeed noticeably whiter. They are still not as white as I'd like them to be, but they are certainly improved from where they were when I began using the strips. I plan to do another regimen and see where that takes me. If you're willing to put $50 into a whiter smile, Crest White Strips is a great choice. I can't say how effective they are compared to other brands since I've never used them, but I am satisfied with the results I got for the price of a box of strips. That's all anyone can ask.
