(More customer reviews)When I bought this item, I chose the Brookstone brand because it is a name I trust more than other brands, such as Violight. However when I opened my package today, I discovered that the item I recieved is a Violight UV sanitizer. The name on the case says "Vioight," and is simply sold from Brookstone. They mark it up and then sell it to you, even though, you can purchase the exact same product through Amazon from Violight. Save yourself some money and buy the Violight (which was ten dollars cheaper at the time I purchased my Brookstone product). This product is a birthday gift, so I don't have time to return it and buy the cheaper one. I am not happy with Amazon or Brookstone for not labeling the product properly. Right now, I just hope it works well.

Sunbeam UV 4-Toothbrush Sanitizer Review

(More customer reviews)I ws so excited to get This. I actually bought it over a year ago at walgreens on sale. It was about the same price as here. $15. I thought this would be great for my kids toothbrushes. But over time I discovered that bacteria and mold builds up on the inside. Down in the bottom, under the plastic toothbrush holder that blocks the bottom two thirds of the unit from view. I started to see black spots on the brush handles and investigated further. The brush holder bracket is not easy to remove, but once I did I was appalled with the disgusting build up of mold and bacteria all over inside the unit. Wherever the UV light does not get to, was disgusting and covered with it.
Then I cleaned the whole inside the sanitizer the best I could. Even washed it out with Hydrogen Peroxide and followed up with alcohol. I tried to make sure the kids washed their whole toothbrush each time they used them. I even followed up behind them and washed them myself. After a month I checked inside under the toothbrush holder again and it was once again nasty and black scum growing everywhere. I tossed the whole unit in the trash.
They should have used a full length light, or some kind of reflective surface might have worked to bounce the UV rays around inside. But hiding the problem area from view doesnt make it safe. Even though I think it was a fantastic idea, I think its a horrible design , and I would not suggest buying this at all. I can see why the price dropped so much so quickly. Im surprised there has not been a voluntary or mandatory recall on it.

(More customer reviews)I've had this for a year now, and have fully developed my opinions on it. It's a waste of money. Violight's website quotes a Wall St. Journal article supposedly praising the product, but fails to give the whole picture: the article said that there is a general consensus among medical experts that toothbrush sanitizers do NOT prevent diseases any more effectively than simply letting toothbrushes air dry (thus killing bacteria). NEXT, the toothbrush stands on its head, and the combination of the heat of the bulb and the pressure of its being on its head leads to misshapen bristles that can tear your gums or at least result in a less effective cleaning. NEXT, it's hard to clean, and even after rinsing a toothbrush thoroughly, there's toothpaste residue left over. This stuff falls into the cup, which is hard to clean. Also, if you try to rigorously clean the cup, even with a soft cloth, the shiny coat inside the cup (which helps the UV rays better bounce around) rubs off - the cup is merely painted plastic, not polished metal. BOTTOM LINE: the VIOLIGHT IS A WASTE. Air dry your toothbrushes and keep them away from the toilet. Perhaps buy 2 toothbrushes and rotate. For 50 dollars, at 3 months per $2 toothbrush, that's three years' worth of toothbrushing - longer than the VIOlight bulb likely lasts with regular use (and add onto this the cost of the toothbrushes themselves).

Zero Germ UV Light Toothbrush Sanitizer Review

(More customer reviews)Just got two of these in the mail a few days ago and finally had the chance to evaluate it. True, I don't have the lab to test for "Swine Flu" but can tell you that this device is way under powered to be effective (it's powered by 2 AA batteries for crying out loud). I took this unit apart for further investigation and it appears to be a single LED light (yes, LED) and some thin wirs which puts this units valuation at about $1.75.
I was hoping for the best when I ordered this as the bacteria in your mouth which can consist of herpes simplex I (from people you come in contact with), influenza virus, staphylococci, streptococci, along with other bacteria that may cause diarrhea as well as gum disease.
I have since gone back to dipping my brush in antibacterial mouthwash daily and replacing it every month.
