(More customer reviews)Cella contain both coconut oil and tallow, two of the best lathering ingredients, and that is what makes it work so well: great lubrication and substantial lather that helps keep the whiskers moisturized (to soften them) and helps support the whiskers allowing the razor blade to get at them.
Cella's description in Italian ("crema da barba all'olio di mandorla") means "shaving cream with almond oil". Although it is called a cream it is more like a hard putty. Cella has a very pleasant almond scent. Note that like most shaving soaps the scent is not meant to, and indeed does not, linger for long after the shave. It does make the shaving experience pleasant!
This product is 150g in a very useful and tightly sealed container. This keeps it from drying out and makes it convenient for traveling. A large (1000g) block is available for refills but I think the soap has a shelf-life and it will take one person a very long time to get through 1000g of the soap. The 150g package lasts a very long time in itself.

Like the other reviews say, use the weight of the shaver no pressure. just heat your face up with a hot wet towel and get some nice lather going with the brush and let it slide down your neck and face. Just let it roll...nice and easy. Dont rush or you will cut yourself. just take your time and do a good job and you wont have to shave again for 2 days. Dont go for kits just because it comes with a brush and a stand.. Most kits pair a popular razor with a mediocre brush and a stand that costs a dollar to make.
go the extra mile and get them separately and they will last for years.
my kit is a drop in the bucket compared to years of money on stupid mach 3's cartridges? I've been using mach 3 since it came out in 1998. Thats 12 years ago!
Do the math. average 12 pack of mach 3's 23.00 x 1 year about 6 12 packs a year for me = 138 x 12 years = $1656I think you get the idea.

Clean shaves are a must daily and I've tried it all...magic shave, mach 3, Fusion (or as I call it mach 5), Norelco Nivea for men shavers and clippers. All had their positives but mixing chemicals daily became tiring and in-grown hairs were unsightly. So, after much research I decided to try wet-shaving. This has made a world of difference.
The Merkur HD is my first razor. Using Art of Shaving products and Merkur blades, I'm able to get a close shave with no razor burn/bumps. Occasionally I'll get an in-grown but I blame my technique (I still cut myself every now and then...usually when I'm in a rush). This razor definitely has some weight to it and I find the blade loading/unloading simple although not as cool as the "butterfly" razors.
I highly recommend this product for a beginner. Blades are equally as important. I have found Merkur blades to be the happy medium between quality and sharpness although Feather's clearly are samurai sword sharp. Make sure you get a good quality badger brush and shaving cream/soap. Good luck!

I still like it, but if you are picking this by color you will be disappointed. I would have rated 5 stars if I had received the one in the picture. I had chosen this one over the one with the red lettering for the green color, but received the red one anyway.
I used a coffee mug before, and this apothecary mug is made for making lather the way the side walls are shaped. You don't bump your thumb and fingers any more and it is easier to keep the lather in the mug.
Try one, you'll like it!!!

Razor Scientists have developed a radical new razor called the DE or "Double Edge" Razor. Well, it is all true, but the basic design wasn't developed in 2008, it was developed over 100 years ago and it is likely that your grandpa and possibly your dad used it. Stop paying $3 for a razor cartridge. Put that cash in your pocket and give the Merkur Barber Pole DE razor a try!

(More customer reviews)I use it for graying hair. It is easy to use, but doesn't last long. I used to be a red head, so I have light, sensitive, freckled skin. I've used this for years with no problems. My biggest complaint is they have dropped the light sandy blond. I have to use this about every 4 days. When you do use it, don't leave it on too long, 5 to 8 minutes max. After that it starts to get a dark gray tint. Most of the cancer warnings I've read about concern permanent hair color which this is not.

Merkur "1904" Classic Safety Razor - Open-#41- Made in Germany Review

(More customer reviews)This is the third Merkur razor I have purchased - the first one was the long-handled Merkur safety-razor I purchased for my husband. We had a small fortune invested in the Mach razors - which never really worked except for the first shave. A few minor nicks the first few times he used it, but quickly got the hang of it and it gives him a very close, non-irritating shave (we also use natural goats milk soap rather than chemical "shaving cream"). Then I purchased one for my teenage son (it was the one just like my husband's, only with a short handle). He loves it, too. I purchased this one for myself - I figured if it worked so well for the guys, it might work great for the girls. And it does. Nice close shave without stripping my skin. Respect the razor, know the proper way to use a safety-razor and you will never want to go back to those other things again.
The short-handled razors like this one are great for my small hands, but a man with large hands would probably prefer the long-handled razor (which is about the same length as a Mach razor). Also, this one has "open" teeth whereas the other two I purchased did not. To me, both types give just as close a shave - I see no difference (neither does my husband). Perhaps those who allow their beard/hair to grow longer before they shave might find a difference.

(More customer reviews)I like this product very much because it looks natural and, at least in my case, blends well and leaves some strands of grey hair. I use the Dark Brown,and was afraid it would not be dark enough going by the picture on the package, but on my hair it appears darker than said picture. I am 57 (and yes, Lucy is a male), and only parts of my hair are going grey, so I don't usually cover all my hair, leaving a lot of product left over. The main thing I want to add to the other reviews is this: the insert specifically says you can only use the product once, then must discard it and use a new tube next time. This is nonsense. The product works by reacting with air to turn dark, so all you need to do to keep it usable is keep it from hitting air. When you are done applying, remove the applicator, squeeze out every last bit of air from the tube, and replace the cap, being careful to keep a little "squeeze" on the tube while doing so, so air doesn't get sucked back in. When you use it next time, it will look clear (if it doesn't, air got in) and work fine. I have used each tube several times over the course of several months doing this, and it works perfectly.
